Pablo Mercado - Inconsistency V
Technique: Oil on linen and intervened wood
Artist Biography: Pablo Mercado is a Spanish artist born in 1983 in the city of Vigo. He graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca and later obtained a master's degree at the Complutense University of Madrid. Mercado's style is unique and complex, combining elements of figuration and abstraction. His works often depict human and animal figures with geometric and abstract forms, creating a sense of depth and dynamism. He often uses the collage technique in his works, combining materials such as paper, canvas and acrylic paint.Throughout his career, Pablo Mercado has received several awards and recognitions, such as the Prize for Artistic Creation from the Barrié Foundation in 2009 and the First Prize for Painting from the University of Salamanca in 2007. He has exhibited his work in several galleries and museums both in Spain and abroad, such as the Luis Seoane Foundation in A Coruña, the Isabel Bilbao gallery in Malaga, and the Isolina Arbulu gallery in Barcelona. His work has been described as a reflection on identity and the complexity of contemporary life, combining elements of popular culture and artistic tradition.Pablo Mercado's work focuses on exploring human memory and how the brain processes and stores memories. His work combines complex installations with more traditional oil paintings. The Malaga-born artist has developed an interesting fusion between science, psychology and visual arts where his pieces combine pictorial and conceptual elements challenging the viewer's perception and stimulating reflection on the changing nature of our memories. The artist immerses himself in a new series that distances himself from traditional fragmentation, focusing on the essential modification of the object. Mercado has taken the canvas as the main material and, through ingenious techniques, deforms and transforms it to metaphorically represent the neuronal plasticity associated with memory. In this new exhibition, Mercado achieves an effective fusion of both approaches, resulting in pieces that fall somewhere between painting, sculpture and installation. This bold choice triggers a unique aesthetic experience that confronts visitors with the fluidity and malleability of memories.
