Luis Gordillo - S/T (4)
Technique: Mixed media on paper
Artist Biography: Luis Gordillo (Seville, Spain, 1934) and master of several generations of abstract artists, awakens and cultivates his passion for art at a very early age. Throughout more than six decades he navigates between different artistic currents, whose particular interpretation and perpetual renovation have made him one of the main plastic references in Spain, both in the avant-garde of the last century and nowadays. Thus, we can affirm that Gordillo's style is more a result of his own trajectory, of evolutions and ruptures, than of the individual sources from which he has drawn over the years. We see it in the tendency to unfold an image, close to a kaleidoscopic vision, which has its basis in his geometric tendencies. His numerous exhibitions in public spaces include the following anthological exhibitions: MACBA (Barcelona, 1999), Museum Folkwang (Essen, 2000), IVAM (Valencia, 1993), Meadows Museum (Dallas, 1994), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid, 2007), Kunst Museum (Bonn, 2008), CAAC (Seville, 2016), Koldo Michelena (San Sebastia'n, 2017). He has also been awarded prizes and mentions among which the National Prize for Plastic Arts (1981), the Gold Medal for the Merit in Fine Arts (1996), Knight of Arts and Letters of France (2007) and the Vela'zquez Prize for Plastic Arts (2007). Luis Gordillo's work can be found in many public and private collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, the Museo de Arte Contempora'neo de Barcelona, the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla, the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, the Artium de Vitoria, the Fundación La Caixa, the Fundacio' Sun~ol in Barcelona, the Fundación AENA, the Coleccio'n Pilar Citoler, the Fundacio'n Juan March, and the Fundacio'n Helga de Alvear.
