'If I were to tell you...'

Javier Calleja has returned to using pages torn from books and found papers, and has recovered some of the elements of his previous production. By using more intense and vibrant tones than usual, and incorporating more realistic attributes to his characters, such as volume, shadows, brightness, colour and rosy cheeks, he combines the aesthetics of his previous works with the current language that has made him recognised worldwide. At the same time, there is a stark contrast between this fanciful close-up and the hand gestures or the texts on the T-shirts of his characters, which capture the uncertain topicality of these moments. "Let's See, Delicate Issue, And? ["The Only Way Is Up" and "Everything Is Going To Be OK" reflect the lethargic attitude of constant anticipation and adaptation that we have no choice but to accept. By depicting these images on aged paper, Calleja also creates a kind of time capsule that endures as a document of the historical reality in which we live.
