Gulnur Mukazhanova exhibition at Michael Janssen Gallery

Un-Conscious

Silk and velvet fabrics stretch tautly across the canvases, drawing the viewer into Gulnur Mukazhanova's solo exhibition at Michael Janssen Gallery. Entitled "Un-Conscious", the exhibition will be the artist's first with the gallery to date, featuring a series of felt paintings and collages, both produced exclusively for the exhibition. "Un-Conscious" offers a survey of the artist's nearly decade-long investigation into post-nomadic identities. The works jointly explore how felt and collage can become a conduit for subverting age-old practices and visuals that remain in circulation and, similarly, meditate on cultures in flux through the use of the language of abstraction.
