MARÍA DEL CARMEN DÍEZ - Seasons - Summer
Technique: Giclée printing, photopolymer and embossing
Artist Biography: She has received a grant as an artistic engraver from the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre de Madrid, and among her most recent grants are also the Plastic Arts of the Province of Valladolid, Residence for Contemporary Print Bólit Centre d'Art Contemporani and Ema de Girona, Grant for artists of the Artist Book Fair of Castilla y León, among others. He has won several awards including the Carmen Arozena International Graphic Art Award, Certamen de Print José Caballero, EAC Awards, as well as the Open Portfolio Award at the International Fair of Print FIG Bilbao.Seasons, four prints play with the idealization of the seasons of the year through the symbol of women as an allegory of nature, symbols that come from our western visual imaginary. Taking this idea, he recreates the allegory of the woman as a sexualized representation of the four seasons of the year, beautiful half-naked women, surrounded by a natural environment. The images that make up this artist's book present women turned into less desirable monsters than the classical allegories, showing an identity that differs from the femininity to which women are subjected.
