Carneiro's combination of avant-garde art practice with the seemingly endless agricultural routines of the countryside is truly distinctive. His brief fixation of otherwise transitory stages in a long process is also very much in tune. His own craft experience in the santeiro offices (workshops for the creation of religious images), his closeness to the materials and his rootedness gave him an arsenal with which to work and produce new hand-produced "Calendars". Everything he did seems to have been informed by manual dexterity.
