Xavier Cuiñas - Ersidia
Biography of the Artist: Difficult to qualify in a particular style or in a specific artistic current, Cuiñas' work evolved over the years in a very subtle way, with an almost imperceptible continuity, eliminating weight and volume, defining lines, going beyond the sculptural concept to mimic the territory of drawing, of a drawing in three dimensions that projects its shadows invading the contour that surrounds it and inviting the viewer to pure contemplation. Each of the elements present in his pieces is essential and is at the service of a harmony and beauty so delicate that it makes his compositions dance and sway, creating universes with their own identity that explore the limits of sculpture in space. And all this with a meticulousness and technical precision typical of an engineer who, with simple and austere materials such as wire, wood or glass, draws the volume in the void, weaving the fabric of its naked forms to give life to works of such complexity and rhythm that captivate us when we look at them. In short, this is an exhibition that envelops us as a whole and focuses our gaze on each of its many details. We feel the mathematics of perfection, of symmetry and balance, but also of mystery and suggestion. The forms born from the hands and ingenuity of this artist are recognizable and familiar to us, they are part of a cultural imaginary that belongs to us and that evokes concepts such as tradition, craftsmanship, cosmology, play and, of course, music and poetry. Xavier Cuíñas has a consolidated artistic career, a career of more than thirty years with numerous solo and group exhibitions and works in major public and private collections, his last important institutional exhibition being the one held in the hall of the Anxo Valvente Cultural Center in Ourense.
