Description
PEDRO MARÍA ASENSIO - Book I

Biography of the Artist: Pedro María Asensio was born in Cuenca in 1950. Under the influence of the environment of the Museum of Abstract Art he soon discovers that painting is his true vocation. At the end of the 70's, he settles on the island of Ibiza, where he will develop most of his artistic career. Asensio's artistic gaze follows from very early on two paths that, although they seem divergent, come to converge in many aspects: a rationalist and transcendent tendency that links with the search for the purity of Geometric Abstraction and another, more social and less self-absorbed, which has the human being and his circumstance as the object of conceptual expression. In addition to painting, his work includes: installations, sculpture, artist's books, engravings, digital art and objet trouvé. His collaborations in artistic interventions in museums and public spaces, literary works, video art, tapestry design, theatrical sets and, until 2010, his educational work and dissemination of artistic expression stand out. He was a founding member of the Ibizan branch of the Association of Visual Artists of the Balearic Islands, a member of the IbizArtGrup and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Visual Arts of the Balearic Islands. of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE). He has collaborated assiduously with the Institut Ramon Llull, the Institut d'Estudis Balearics and the Associació d'Amics de l'Art Contemporani de les Illes Balears in national and international traveling exhibitions. He has made artistic stays and training periods in Berlin (1986), Denmark (1999), New York (2000), Rome (2004) and India (2023). In 2013 he opened a workshop in Madrid and since then he has been working between Ibiza, Madrid and Cuenca. His work has been exhibited and recognized in numerous exhibitions, both solo and group, inside and outside Spain, forming part of public and private collections. Among his individual exhibitions it is worth mentioning: Disposiciones Transitorias (1992-1995), 28 Gramos (1996) and Irreparables (1996) for the Fundació Sa Nostra; Futuros Perdidos (2005) and Autarquía (2019) for the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de las Islas Baleares (COAIB)) at its headquarters in Eivissa; Espacio Límite (2015-2016) in the Community of Madrid; Desarrollo Insostenible (2017) and No Siempre es Azul (2022) for the Fundació Baleària; Eneagramas (2008) for the Diario de Ibiza; El Silencio de la Horas (2011) and Punto de Fuga (2021) for the Consell d'Eivissa; Oceà Interior (2022) for the Consell de Formentera; Caminos de Luz (2022) and Anatomía de la Sombra (2022) for the Fundación Antonio Pérez de Cuenca; Dispersión Cromática (2023) for the Galería Est_art in Madrid and Hipogeu 4004 (2023) for the Museo Arqueológico de Eivissa y Formentera (MAEF) at its headquarters in the Monographic Museum of Puig des Molins.
