Artist Biography: Andreu Alfaro was a prominent Spanish artist born in Valencia in 1929 and died in Rocafort in 2012. His work focused mainly on sculpture and was characterized by his abstract and minimalist style, in which he explored the relationship between space and form.Alfaro studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, where he graduated in 1952. After graduating, he worked as a professor at the same school and, later, as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Valencia. His artistic career developed mainly in Spain, but his work was also recognized and exhibited in other countries such as Germany, France and the United States.In his work, Alfaro mainly used materials such as iron, steel, aluminum and bronze to create geometric forms and abstract structures. He often worked with simple, elegant forms, such as cylinders, spheres and cones, and explored the relationship between form and the negative space that surrounds it. He was also known for his interest in light and shadow, and his ability to create works that seemed to change shape depending on the viewer's perspective.Among the awards he received throughout his career were the Spanish National Plastic Arts Award in 1980 and the Tomás Francisco Prieto Award from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 2004. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao and the Fundación Juan March in Madrid.In summary, Andreu Alfaro was a leading Spanish artist whose work focused primarily on sculpture and was characterized by an abstract and minimalist style.
