Adolfo Estrada - S.T. Serigrafia
Artist Biography:
Adolfo Estrada was born in Buenos Aires in 1942. Settled in Spain since 1962, he currently lives between Madrid and Gerona, where he has his house-workshop. With an architect father, architecture will be his deepest reference as well as the work of artists such as Malevich or Piet Mondrian. Abstraction in its most geometric and constructivist aspect. Rectangular planes, pure colors and the predominance of the vertical and horizontal, are the basis for reducing the formal resources used to the essential. Estrada likes arcane forms. In his work there are references to the plans of primitive religious constructions -churches and monasteries- and to the fortifications -with their walls and castles- of the Catalan Pyrenees. His world is essential and unadorned, as Robert Janz also said of him. He nourishes his visual world with everything that constitutes his main interest: architecture, photographs of doors and architraves, billboards, buildings, and so on. These elements will become part of the work, already converted into an icon, which calls for contemplation and where the flow of time stops. Estrada's painting is intense, precise, requires concentration and generates a very personal visual world that is not bounded by space or time. His works are part of important private collections, as well as public collections including the Museo Nacional Centro Reina Sofía (Madrid), Espace de l'Art Concret (Mouans-Sardoux, France) and the Museo de Arte Moderno (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
