Abi Castillo - Stars
Artist Biography: Abi Castillo is an illustrator and ceramist from the city of Vigo. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo and a degree in ceramics from the EMAO. Ceramics have given him a world of aesthetic and creative possibilities to be able to give shape and volume to his creatures and characters. His works maintain a romantic ideal of the natural world, fanciful, as if it were his own garden and his characters hide keys of humor and drama, always playing with ambiguity. This ambivalence between mysticism and drama, between the monstrous and the beautiful, is very present in his entire personal project. He has exhibited his works in spaces such as Justmad, Hybrid Art Fair, O! Galería de Porto and Crackids Lisboa and collaborated with the Zara brand with his illustrations in the Women in Art project. He has recently exhibited his work in Los Angeles with Thinkspace Gallery with whom he is preparing his next solo exhibition.
Low temperature ceramic 1030°C and gold. Raio de Lúa "This series is dedicated to my daughter and is about my vision of motherhood, from a point of view of deep infatuation and oxytocin intoxication, thanks to which I have survived this last year. Raio de Lúa is a set of works conceived during the night, in which I talk about the things that are changing in me, about the full phases and the empty phases, which, like the moon, return in a cyclical way." Abi Castillo is a multidisciplinary artist. The characters she creates talk about stories she has lived and about her emotions. In short, they are an alter ego in which she pours all her feelings. She feels the need to give life to objects, always looking for eyes to look at, that's why faces are very important in her work. Mysticism and drama, the monstrous and the beautiful, are always present in his work.
