Julius Bockelt - untitled
Technique: ballpoint pen
Artist Biography: Julius Bockelt (Germany, 1949) is a self-taught artist who creates works through drawing and painting. His style is framed within the art brut or marginal art, characterized by the absence of academic training and spontaneous and instinctive creation.Bockelt creates his works in a trance-like state, letting his hand move freely across the paper or canvas, which allows him to create abstract forms that seem to emerge from his unconscious. His technique includes applying multiple layers of paint and creating textures through the use of palette knives and other utensils.Despite his lack of academic training, Bockelt has gained recognition in the brut art world, being exhibited in major galleries and museums in Europe and North America. In 2013, his work was selected to be part of the Outsider Art Biennial in London.Bockelt's works have a strong symbolic and abstract content, allowing the viewer to interpret them in multiple ways. His drawings and paintings are full of organic and fluid forms that suggest an imaginary and dreamlike world. Through his art, Bockelt tries to explore the limits of his own consciousness and to connect with a world beyond the visible.
