Albert Ràfols Casamada - Director
Artist Biography: Barcelona, 1922-2009Albert Ràfols Casamada's work, in addition to the extensive pictorial career that has projected him internationally, includes another creative facet as a literary poet. Nor is it surprising that his multidisciplinary nature has attracted him to teaching and pedagogy in the world of plastic disciplines. In his painting he has developed and maintained this fragile balance between tradition and modernity: his work, with classical roots, in turn incorporates the legacy of the avant-garde. At the beginning of the 1970s he abandoned figuration to work on abstract painting, which would lead him, in the 1980s and 1990s, to develop a more lyrical abstraction. This process will lead to what will become the most recognized stage of his artistic career. On the other hand, Ràfols Casamada has played a fundamental role in the renewal of arts education in Spain, being a founding member of the Eina School in Barcelona in 1967.
