Renato Costa - OCHRA CASTRUM
Technique: Oil on linen
Artist Biography: Renato Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1974) lives and works in Madrid since 2005. He began his training in the studio of his father, the painter Manoel Costa, and studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in European and American countries such as Spain, Germany, Belgium, Peru and Columbia, and his work is defined by the intense expression of emotions through its technical and thematic characteristics. Often, the themes present a profound relationship between the past and the present, either through collective history or personal memory. He uses and claims figuration, subjectivity, open emotions, autobiography, memory, symbolism, psychology and narrative, mixing these factors with the strategies of conceptual art, in search of the dilation and modulations of a range of pictorial traditions that are increasingly interwoven with each other, in an exercise that aims to shed any prejudice for the benefit of a freedom of action. His works have been exhibited in several public institutions, including the IAACC, Aragonese Institute of Contemporary Art and Culture, the Pablo Serrano Museum (Zaragoza), the CEART Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Tomás y Valiente (Fuenlabrada, Madrid) and the IVAM, Valencian Institute of Modern Art (Valencia).
