Jose Cháfer - Direct elongated carving in Redwood Trunk
Biography of the Artist: José Cháfer is an artist born in Madrid in 1991, graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid. He defines himself as a lover of nature and the phenomena that arise in it, observing and analyzing the multiple forms, textures and colors that are present in it, his admiration for the cyclical changes of nature leads him to investigate and feel interest in the connections that are generated in it, as well as the concept of balance in it. For this reason, he works with natural materials such as wood and stone, immersing himself in each piece with the intention of improving and finding the best version of himself in his work.Cháfer's work focuses on the introduction of the spectator through the forms of his sculptures, transmitting the sensation of hypnosis that he himself experiences during his creative process. His talent has allowed him to win recently (2020) the Third Prize in the International Sculpture Competition of the CAPA Foundry, as well as to participate in numerous exhibitions and contemporary art fairs such as the Queen Sofia Award for Painting and Sculpture, ART MADRID, ALMONEDA Antiques Fair, art galleries and collecting and Stockholm Art Fair, among others. In short, Cháfer's work is characterized by his deep respect and admiration for nature, using natural materials in his sculptures and transmitting a sense of balance and cyclical movement in his work.
In this sculpture the artist José Cháfer (Madrid, 1991) works by direct carving of redwood to produce a sculpture full of organic forms reminiscent of nature. This source of inspiration allows him to explore the curved forms that twine around each other as if they were the stem of a plant and the use of wood produces imperfections that give authenticity and originality to his sculptures. This work is the proof of how the artist observes and admires daily the balance of the world to transfer it in his works always taking into account elements such as balance, movement or compositional freedom.
