Angélica Arbulú - M Against the Volcano
Artist Biography:
A Mexican-born Spaniard, Angelica has lived on four continents and considers herself a cultural mix. Her quest is to capture the essence of the mundane. To make the ordinary seem unique.
"This is Angélica's strength, capturing people and places and making the everyday look beautiful and exotic." (Emma Fordham, artist) She sees photography as just the first step in the process, "sculpting" the image through the editing process to enhance its essence.
Lake Atitlan, Guatemala Lake Atitlan is used to tourists, mostly yogis or ravers, but relatively few children visit. My kids quickly became the local attraction. Three kids passed us like we weren't even there. This was their territory. They joked and rolled around, like puppies, fully aware that you were there, their only spectator. They argued over who would jump first. Without a word, you stood up, walked past them and jumped into the cold water under their stunned gaze. Confidence and fire always burned within you, just like the volcano on the horizon.
