Description
Pedro Moreno Meyerhoff - Body II

Artist Biography: Pedro Moreno Meyerhoff Barcelona, 1950. He is considered one of the most important and recognized figures of realism today. He came to painting through paternal influence and continued in it in a self-taught way, practicing it first as a hobby and later as a vehicle of expression at a professional level. A dedication that he has combined throughout his life with his academic career as a doctor and professor of Procedural Law. An academic training and work experience that he considers has helped him to convey the accuracy that defines his particular style. His drawings and oil paintings present a symbiosis of the proportions and beauty of the classical world, the technical mastery and mystery of the great figures of the Italian Renaissance (Giorgione or Piero della Francesca) and the transcendent spirit of abstraction of figures such as Mark Rothko. Images - urban landscapes and environments, details of nature and the everydayness of our lives, exteriors full of light and interiors endowed with an intimate luminosity - that are not just a moment in pause, but a meticulous synthesis between the present, the passage of time that has given them their current form, and the emotions and sensations provoked by their experience. In his own words "the work of art is only immobile in appearance, it expresses a passion to fix, to immobilize the present". He exhibited for the first time in 1979 in his native Barcelona. Since then he has shown his creations in a multitude of solo and group exhibitions - in galleries, fairs such as ARCO, FIAC (Paris) and institutions such as UNICEF - through which he has become known both among the specialized public and the critics. Part of his professional career has been spent at the prestigious Claude Bernard Gallery in Paris, which has represented him worldwide since 1990. Before illustrating the 2018 MAXAM Calendar, Pedro Moreno Meyerhoff had already stood out as a poster artist with canvases such as the one that gave image to the 2012 edition of the famous Ronda goyesca bullfight and drawings such as the one he illustrated the Christmas of 2001 for La Caixa Foundation. His work can be seen in institutions such as the MACBA (Spain), the Fundación La Caixa, or the Kunstmuseum of Wupperthal (Germany), as well as in important collections in Spain, France, Norway, Colombia or the USA.
