Fernando Botero - Via Crucis (Way of the Cross)
Artist Biography:
In 2012, Fernando Botero donated his Via Crucis series to the Museo de Antioquia in Medellin. Now, on the occasion of its 90th anniversary, he wanted to turn that masterpiece into an artistic edition that pays tribute to the people of Colombia. This is the artist's book that connects the history of art with the memory of the Master. A limited and numbered edition of 2,998 copies that includes the complete series of 34 drawings and 27 paintings (61 works in total) in which the Master shows his personal interpretation of the Christian Way of the Cross. Botero's involvement is present in every detail of this artist's book, created in collaboration with the Museum of Antioquia, and presented in a display case. Made of methacrylate with a removable side frame, passion red in color and the artist's signature in relief, it provides access to the two volumes. An open window dedicated to the greatness of the Colombian master's art. The Art Book includes the 34 drawings of the series reproduced with absolute fidelity to the originals, made in pencil and watercolor on paper. Each plate is accompanied by a quotation from the Bible, printed on semi-transparent red paper. The cover of this bilingual edition, in Spanish and English, is an unpublished image, printed on canvas: a silhouetted detail of the oil painting Cerca de la Cruz (2010), from the artist's private collection. The keys to Botero's work are analyzed in detail in the articles gathered in the Study Book. Federico Mayor Zaragoza, former director general of UNESCO, shows the artist's great contribution to the universalization of culture and art, and David Ebony, American critic, reviews the keys to Botero's work. As exceptional collaborators of the Museo de Antioquia, its general director, María del Rosario Escobar, offers a panoramic view of the transformation of Medellín and Botero's role in this change. And Camilo Castaño, curator of the museum, takes us on a journey through the artist's work and analyzes the series in depth, especially each of the 34 drawings.
This work includes a certificate of authenticity. A certificate of authenticity is a document from an authoritative source that verifies the authentication value of the work of art. The certificate may be signed by the author of the work, by the representing gallery or by the printmaker who collaborated with the artist on the work.
The information usually included in a certificate of authenticity is: name of the artist, details of the work (title, date, support, dimensions) and an image of the work.
Recommendations for the proper conservation of works of art:
- Keep works of art away from direct sunlight and any other source of heat (heating, air conditioning, etc.). Avoid hanging works of art near smoky and polluted areas (such as fireplaces or kitchens). We advise you to protect the paintings with a glass frame.
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature. It is recommended to keep the paintings in areas with an ambient temperature of between 18-20º and 50% relative humidity.
- If the work is to be permanently illuminated, we recommend the use of cold light bulbs. Use a soft feather duster for periodic cleaning of the work. Never use household cleaner.
