Albano Afonso - Bird, glass and crystal. Unique piece
Technique: Bronze, glass and steel cable
Artist Biography: The work of Albano Afonso (Brazil, 1964) is an investigation into the nature of light, which he considers just another pictorial element, and time. In his installations, which include different objects such as mobile sculptures, photographs and light projections, the artist creates a game of perception that reveals the constructed space as an illusory part of reality.Afonso approaches the classic genres: landscape, still life and portrait, from which he reflects on the way in which the image is constructed and how it is perceived by the viewer. His constant concern is the expanded experience in the perception of the plastic work, appealing not only to vision, but also to touch and hearing. Immutability and change dialogue in his mobile, tactile and sound sculptures that, in their delicate suspension of metal rods and cables, offer a space for unpredictability and chance. Highlights include solo and group exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center (Cincinnati), the Centro Cultural São Paulo, as well as the 1st International Biennial of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and the 29th Biennial of São Paulo.
