Technique: Mixed media on paper
Artist Biography: Perejaume is a Spanish visual artist born in Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona, in 1957. He trained at the Massana School in Barcelona and has developed a multidisciplinary career that encompasses painting, sculpture, installation and poetry. Perejaume's work is characterized by his interest in the relationship between nature and culture, and his exploration of Catalan identity and the history of the region. His works, which often incorporate natural materials and found objects, seek to connect with the essence of the land and the Catalan cultural tradition. Perejaume has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums in Spain and abroad, and has been the recipient of several awards and recognitions, including Spain's National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2019. In addition to his work as an artist, Perejaume has also published several books of poetry and essays on art. With his innovative approach and his ability to connect culture and nature, Perejaume is one of the most important and influential artists on the contemporary art scene in Spain."In my work," says the artist, "I have been insisting on a great diversity of arboreal manifestations." An example of this communion between trees and works is his book of poems entitled Obreda (2003) (in the sense of arbreda (grove) of works). The tree when it turns has life, dances before us and seems to whisper, erect and unfinished, "like a word that sounds with half-open letters. Because the sound also becomes firewood, as if it were the word bearing sturdy branches and extending them to the breath." - "In my work" says the artist "I have been insisting on a great diversity of arboreal manifestations". An example of this communion between trees and works can be found in his book of poems entitled Obreda (2003) (a fictitious word referring to arboleda, meaning a arboretum of works).when the tree slowly rotates it comes alive and appears to dance before us and to whisper "as a word that sounds with semi-open letters.Because sound also turns into firewood, as if it were the word that had taken robust branches and turned them into a breath".
