Artist Biography: Ana Pérez Ventura investigates the relationship between time and space according to strategies of repetition. In the artist's own words, she is interested in the confrontation between an objective framework (a clock time, a specific space, a musical scale...) and a subjective one of lived time (through gesture, voice, traces...). In this way he makes an organic record of the passage of time. He is interested in the different variations that inevitably occur with each repetition. His work with time has its origins in his musical life. As a pianist and performer, he continuously translates the signs of the score into a choreography of movements on the keyboard that give rise to the sound. The repetition of gestures is intrinsic to the pianist's work routine.

 

He started the Études series ten years ago and has so far produced more than two hundred works. An etude, in music, is a piece of didactic character destined to work on a specific technical problem, a concrete gesture. Because of this, etudes have a very repetitive writing. For anatomical reasons, most of the gestures used on the piano are circular in nature. Transferring these gestures to the pictorial support, he repeats in an orderly manner, filling all pictorial space, a circular repetitive rhythmic movement that traces a continuous line. He repeats the process in different layers or strata, in some of the works up to fifty layers, thus leaving material evidence of the passage of time.
