Francisco Leiro - Reliquary

Artist Biography: Francisco Leiro Lois was born in Cambados, Pontevedra, in 1957 and is an outstanding Spanish plastic artist in the field of painting and sculpture. He began his training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Santiago de Compostela, continuing later at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1985, he represented Spain at the São Paulo Biennial and since 1986, he has exhibited regularly at ARCO, Madrid, one of the most important art fairs in Spain. In 1988, he settled in New York, where he began working for the prestigious Malborough Gallery, one of the most prominent contemporary art galleries.Among Francisco Leiro's best-known works are the figure of a fantastic animal known as Sireno (1991), erected on two columns of polished green and black granite in the Puerta del Sol in Vigo, the Homage to Castelao in the Alameda de Santiago de Compostela (1995), the Batea or Saavedra on the Lérez River in the Parque de la Isla de las Esculturas in Pontevedra, the Astronauta in Valdemoro (Madrid), Vértigo on the M50 highway in Madrid (2004) and Simeón sentado ante Torre Espacio, Madrid.His work is characterized by a clear influence of abstract expressionism and figuration, fusing organic and geometric forms. He is currently a member of the Sculpture section of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In addition, his works are in important collections and museums of contemporary art.

- If the work is to be permanently illuminated, we recommend the use of cold light bulbs. Use a soft feather duster for periodic cleaning of the work. Never use household cleaner.
