Artist Biography: David Delgado Ruiz Madrid, 1975. When I was ten years old I thought what would become of me when I was 20, then 30 and now 40. From that innocent question as a child, I began to look at time, observe it, trying to discover why sometimes it is so long and others, however, last an instant, if in fact both measure the same. I document contemporary reality, telling stories about how time and space generate a context in the social relations between human beings and the hostile environment that surrounds them, the city understood as present, past and future. Intervened Reality is the line where I develop the geometric symmetries between the different spaces I inhabit and investigate from emptiness and stillness.

CATALOGUE TEXT PHOTOESPAÑA'17. There was a time when photography was fully immersed in the paradigm of the decisive instant, that supposed ability to segment time and stabilize the fullness of the pure event. The play of multiple perspectives, so characteristic of the aesthetics of the historical avant-garde, opened up the possibility of incorporating formal, spatial and iconographic disruption into representation. Collage and photomontage, with their ability to bring elements from different fields into the same context to create a unity that was no longer purist but essentially precarious, broke old taxonomies in art and opened up paths of research that are still being constantly pursued today. David Delgado Ruiz has developed a discourse that is organized around some of the conflictive zones of photographic representation. To do so, he establishes fissures, creates interferences, questions the generalized acceptance of the image as a promise of contact with reality and culminates in a reflection on the imagination and its rhetorical possibilities. Specifically, his series #UnReality is born from the juxtaposition of apparently unconnected images that are assembled by a common denominator: time, space or speed. These three parameters are assumed by the artist to unmask, according to his own words, "the relativity of convictions, the absurdity of fanaticism, as is the tedious observation of the "The relativity of convictions, the absurdity of fanaticism, as is the tedious observation of the "reality of the world". His compositions seek to disarticulate the unfounded models of any visuality that pretends to be monolithic and open up to the understanding of a hyperconnected world, but also decentralized and diffuse. Thus, in the same composition coexist elements separated by thousands of kilometers or events that occurred in very different time frames. The resource of the image within the image serves to semantically reactivate the content of what we see and open it to plural perspectives. In this sense, David Delgado Ruiz does not construct artifacts capable of being resolved at a first glance, since each image contains events whose existence is maintained in an unstable territory: that of their impossibility in a canonical time and space. The artist achieves, in short, the possibility of estrangement in the midst of so much obviousness and, above all, that the image does not become a platform for answers but a field for doubt. Text: Carlos Delgado Mayordomo. Curator and Art Critic. Text for the PhotoEspaña '17 catalog.
