LISARDO MENÉNDEZ On monochrome backgrounds, Lisardo composes restless, enigmatic and dynamic structures in a completely personal style. The order, balance and apparent simplicity of his paintings immerse us in a pictorial constructivism in which blacks, whites and reds populate a geometric abstraction with subtle figurative allusions to architectural forms. Lisardo's work exists in the most essential geometry, more refined, with an extreme purity and free of any artifice that distracts from the essence of the piece. His is not an easy painting and therein lies part of its beauty and mastery. The spectator needs time to see his paintings and discover in them the imaginary landscapes that are hidden behind the white, to unravel the mysteries that his painting encloses and to discover, behind the almost obsessive austerity and rigor, the unstable and complex reality that Lisardo proposes in his work and our role within it. In short, and in the words of the artist himself, Lisardo asks the visitor to look inside the painting "because that is where things happen". This is not a simple exercise and perhaps for this reason, taking up here a quote by Toma's Paredes published in 2008 in the newspaper La Vanguardia, "Lisardo has an explicit recognition by collectors, and a sort of aura, as a cult artist for the critics who praise his purity, his linear and constructive mysticism, far from any affectation". He has had exhibitions in Spain, France, Italy and Portugal, and has attended contemporary art fairs such as Art Madrid, Foro Sur, ARCO, Art Lisboa and Arte Santander. In addition, he has received awards such as the Prize of the XIX Nicanor Piñole Contest, or the F.L.C. International Prize. His work is represented in numerous private collections, institutions and museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, the Caja Rural, the Prince of Asturias Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Masaveu Collection; etc.
On monochrome backgrounds, Lisardo composes still, enigmatic and dynamic structures in a completely personal style. The order, balance and simplicity of his paintings immerse us in a pictorial constructivism in which blacks, whites and reds predominate in a geometric abstraction with subtle figurative allusions to architectural forms. Minimalism and Van-Guardism combine in the theatricality of his compositions.
