HERMINIO ÁLVAREZ The search as a motivation is one of the necessities of Herminio's artistic production. The artist works and experiments with different materials, textures and colors, together with multiple supports that contain, embrace, reflect, support and distribute his creations in all possible spaces, where they generate their own habitat, with its small subtleties and its enormous magnetisms. They introduce us into an atmosphere that radiates as much magic as fascination, with minimalist, suprematist and kinetic dyes. Self-taught, Herminio's restless mind is initially interested in mechanical research and from there to draw a link between science and art, geometry and space, materials and gravity. He uses a palette reduced almost entirely to black, white and red and the distinctive use of magnets, in which both the thread in tension and the projected shadows are part of the harmonious whole. These sculptures acquire surprising plastic results that attract and enrapture those who contemplate them; perhaps this powerful force is intangible but physically observable by the visual perception of the spectator. In his pieces we can contemplate two aspects: one with meticulous compositions of delicate elements and different materials whose fragile beauty and subtlety finds its germ in the artist's fondness for drawing, engraving, collage and miniature. On the other hand, the works that tirelessly investigate forms and their relationships in space, presenting increasingly simplified, more refined forms, which enter fully into a geometric abstraction in which balances, tensions and counterpositions prevail. He has exhibited nationally and internationally in Toronto, Lisbon, Paris, Miami and Tokyo, and has participated on several occasions in fairs such as ARCO Madrid and Art Madrid. Herminio's work is part of such outstanding collections as the Museum of La Rioja, the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, the Prince of Asturias Foundation, the Dove Collection in New York and the Masaveu Collection; and can also be seen in public spaces such as the Rinconín Park in Gijón, the As Quintas de La Caridad Cultural Complex, the HUCA, the entrance to Vegadeo and the Plaza de la Poesía in Oviedo.
