Artist Biography: Álvaro Barrios is a Colombian artist born in 1945 in Cartagena. He is known for his work in various disciplines, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, Print and installation. His work is characterized by its critical approach and his exploration of themes such as art, politics and popular culture.Barrios studied art at the School of Fine Arts of the National University of Colombia and later at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Paris. Since then, he has developed an extensive artistic career spanning more than five decades.In his work, Barrios often uses popular images and historical references to explore social and political issues. He is also interested in the role of the artist and the relationship between art and the viewer. In addition to his work in the visual arts, Álvaro Barrios has also made forays into literature, poetry and performance, and his artistic explorations are characterized by their interdisciplinarity and his constant experimentation with new media and forms of expression.In his work, Barrios uses a wide variety of techniques and styles, from realism to abstraction and irony. He is also interested in popular culture and music, which is reflected in many of his works.His art has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Colombia and abroad, and he has received several awards and recognitions throughout his career. In 2011, he was awarded Colombia's National Plastic Arts Award for his outstanding artistic career.
