Sculpture in stone

Antonio Chemor's sculpture explores the possibilities of materials, their resistance and fragility, as a search for satisfaction in the exploration of his philosophical, historical and argumentative concerns. He turns philosophical problems into sculptural problems. His works arise from a drawing or idea resulting from the exploration of the material. In his work there is a great influence and study of the sculptural work of other artists, important representatives of the history of art - to whom he pays homage in some of the titles of his pieces - as well as sculptural pieces from pre-Hispanic Mexico.

Chemor prefers to work with grey tones, in direct carving on stones from different areas of Mexico, giving different finishes for intensities of black. The unworked textures, the betas, and the original fractures of the stone serve to accentuate this unfinished part of the piece, he plays the polished, the excessively well finished, with the natural imprecision of the stone, for a renewal in the vision of the ever-changing forms.
