The Platform

Photographer Alejandro S. Garrido returns to Madrid with The Platform, a series that addresses the present of urban development in London, the city where he lives. [After photographing the financial heart of London in the series City of London (2018-19), the photographer continues his work looking at the impact of the economic model on urban form. In The Platform (2019-20), the author documents the transformation in which the British capital has been immersed following the financial crisis of 2008. Garrido composes a panoramic view, through a selection of strategic locations, of the city's current situation. These places, though scattered across the map, constitute a single emerging urban system. They are therefore perhaps particularly revealing in explaining both the accelerated financialisation of the city and the implications of this new mode of growth for the lives of its inhabitants.
